Make your next empowering move.  We can help.

Laguna Honda Celebrates!

What an amazing place to live and work! On September 24 from 11:00 am-3:00 pm, the Laguna Honda community celebrates its accomplishments from the past year.

  • One year ago this summer, the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program (LEED) awarded Laguna Honda LEED silver status, making us the first LEED-certified hospital in the state.

  • Just nine months ago, we undertook the largest hospital move in California history, 750 people in two days. State monitors called it "flawless."

  • This past June, the U.S. Department of Justice concluded its oversight of the hospital, writing in a letter to city officials that Laguna Honda's community integration efforts are "creative" and "extraordinary."

  • This month, the federal Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services raised the hospital’s rating to three out of five stars. Our goal? Five out of five by 2014.

  • Plus: During the last five years we have helped over 1,200 disabled Laguna Honda residents move to community-based housing in San Francisco, 70% of them to independent living.

Residents, staff, and friends will gather to acknowledge our progress over the past year, listen to live music, play some carnival games, and enjoy soft drinks and bar-b-que.

We will also honor two special people who helped lay the foundation for our success.

  • 1:30 pm: Dedication of the new Laguna Honda farm to our former chief nursing officer Virginia Leishman.

  • 2:30 pm: Dedication of the hospital's community center in memory of ourformer executive administrator, John Kanaley.

Parking: We encourage everyone to take public transportation.  The hospital is across the street from the Forest Hill Muni station.  For drivers: If you are a Laguna Honda staff member on duty that day, please park in the East Parking Lot. If you are a family member or visitor, please park in the Northwest Lot.

San Francisco School of the Arts
Esplanade

March 16, 2011 – 2:30p.m.

The radiant voices of 52 young singers from the San Francisco School for the Arts fill the Laguna Honda Esplanade March 16 when our neighbors from up the hill pay a musical visit to Laguna Honda. The SOTA students present a ringing mix of a cappella liturgical music, folk melodies, and American spirituals big enough to shake the rafters if our new buildings had any. Our thanks to SOTA for adding Laguna Honda to its 2011 tour dates.
