Palliative and End of Life Care

In the welcoming environment of Laguna Honda’s palliative care and end of life program we provide palliative services to patients with chronic and progressive illnesses and end of life services to patients at the end of life.

Palliative and end of life therapies treat physical symptoms, such as pain, along with the emotional distress and spiritual suffering that often accompanies serious or progressive illness.

Our program includes long term palliative treatment for patients with chronic progressive conditions who are also undergoing medical interventions.

Our care is based on the patient’s own goals and hopes. Our care team includes both professionals and trained volunteers who support patients, family members and friends affected by the illness.

The Laguna Honda’s palliative and end of life community is located on the third floor of the South Residence Building on the Laguna Honda campus. It enjoys eastern and southern exposures.

The community is designed around a central Great Room where we serve communal meals and offer daily activities, including music, movies, and animal visits.

The community consists of four households of 15 persons each. Every household has its own living room for visits with family and friends.

There are two modern bedroom types, semi-private or private, in a suite of two or three rooms. Each bedroom suite has a shared bathroom with a shower. Two Jacuzzi tubs are available for relaxing baths.

Adjacent to the community is a private garden that offers a place for quiet reflection and serves as the setting of community celebrations.

Every patient is at the center of an interdisciplinary team of care givers.
