The Gifts that God has Given me

My name is Goldie, and I was born in Chicago in 1964.  I’m an African American female and both of my parents are African American. They were born in Mississippi. My mother, Mabeline, was a hair dresser and my father, Robert, was a chef.

Being African American, I like to listen to jazz, Janet Jackson, and hip hop music. I am sweet and kind, and if you need somebody to talk to, I’m here for you. If there is anything I can do for you, I will do it. If you are sick and not feeling well, I will pray for you. Just to let you know, I do work miracles.  This is what I can tell you about my culture.

The home economics classes in high school were very helpful in my life; they taught me how to sew and cook. Sometimes I make my own clothes and I am also a good cook. I have been cooking since I was ten.

My career was in cosmetology. When I turned eighteen, I learned how to do hair, nails, and make-up. My fantasy is to be a beautiful, thin, and petite Black African American model. This has always been, and still is, my biggest fantasy.

Currently, I’m a resident in Laguna Honda Hospital. This place has really saved my life. I thank and praise God for allowing me to be a resident at Clarendon Hall and for helping me start a fresh new life.
