My Life Out of the Shoe Box

I was born in Atlanta Georgia. I arrived three months early as the middle child of three boys. I was so small that at first, my mom kept me in a shoe box as my bed. One day, when my parents were driving in the car, my father, not realizing that I was in the shoe box, threw it out of the window. My mom was so mad at him. When they went back and picked up the shoe box, I was still sleeping peacefully. I grew fast and by the time I was 16, I was 6’4” tall. I played basketball for the Syecak Wolverines. To this day, I am still a sports fan. Basketball and Football are my favorites. I am a Boston Celtics and New York Giants fan.
I came to San Francisco when I was 18. A good friend sent me a plane ticket and that is how I got here. I have been here ever since. I like good food and that is probably because I was a cook. My first job here in San Francisco was at Carl’s Junior as a cook. I then worked for Hill Haven Convalescent Home next to St. Francis Hospital as a cook. I did the education with the kitchen staff to ensure that the residents of the facility got the correct diet and texture of food. After that I worked at a large hotel in downtown San Francisco removing asbestos from the building as it was getting renovated. I was there for two and a half years. Then I worked as a carpet layer.
After that, I got sick and eventually came to Laguna Honda Hospital, where I have been for the past 11 years except for a few months at Leland House and the Windsor Hotel.
I have always liked to be well groomed and dress in the nicest fashions and accessories. I get my curly eyelashes from my mom and have received quite a few compliments on them. I love people, all types. I also have always been the comedian and like to make people laugh.
My message to young people today is to get out and do something constructive. Don’t stay rooted in the same old patterns.
