Developmental Disabilities

Laguna Honda’s care for people with mental retardation and developmental disabilities is provided in conjunction with the Golden Gate Regional Center, a social services agency under contract with the state.

The focus of our programs is to impart practical independent living skills and to locate suitable placement in community-based group homes supervised by GGRC.  Among the community facilities licensed to care for the MR/DD population are those run by former Laguna Honda nursing staff.

We are dedicated to supporting lifelong learning, health, and productivity.  Our in-house therapeutic, nursing and activities staff work to motivate Laguna Honda residents to live full lives and to prepare for transition to community living.

Residents attend school, go on field trips throughout the Bay Area, and participate in art programs held both in-house and off-campus.  We provide physical and occupational therapies as needed to help residents become self-sufficient.  Our nursing, medical and social work staffs work together to provide healthcare and counseling services.

Our mission is to enhance self-reliance, to promote integration, and to see and care for the whole person.
