Laguna Honda Accepts Major Gift From Knight Trust

San Francisco, CA – The Laguna Honda Gift Fund is the recipient of a $500,000 donation from the trust of the late Dolorous Knight, the hospital announced today.

Mrs. Knight, a resident of San Francisco’s Excelsior District, died in June at age 98. She was a longtime supporter of community projects and public works.

The announcement followed formal approval from the Board of Supervisors for the hospital to accept the donation.

“We are extremely grateful to Mrs. Knight for her generosity,” said Executive Administrator Mivic Hirose.  “She obviously felt warmly towards Laguna Honda. Her contribution will make a lasting difference in the lives of the people we serve,” she said.

The Gift Fund supports the quality of life and independence of Laguna Honda residents, meeting individual needs that public funding cannot always address. Projects underwritten by the Fund include musical entertainment; cultural celebrations; tickets for concerts, museums, sporting events or movies; newspaper subscriptions; and transition expenses for residents who no longer require hospitalization and are returning to community living.

Laguna Honda is a federally rated five-star skilled nursing facility, acute care hospital and rehabilitation center owned and operated by the San Francisco Department of Public Health. It provides services to a safety net population of 765 seniors and adults with disabilities.
